From pixel installation to your first A/B test — here's everything you need to know.
Create your account
Sign up at copysplit.com with your email. No credit card required for the 14-day trial. You'll be taken through a quick onboarding questionnaire so we can tailor your dashboard to your needs.
Once complete, you'll land on your dashboard — ready to add your first site. You can invite team members right away or start solo and add them later.
Install the Copysplit pixel
Go to Sites → Add Site. Enter your site's name and URL. You'll get a unique pixel snippet — a single line of JavaScript that goes in your site's <head> tag. Copy it and paste it before the closing </head> tag.
If you use WordPress, we have a plugin that does this automatically. For Shopify, paste it in Settings → Custom Code. For GTM, create a Custom HTML tag with the snippet.
Click 'Verify Installation' to confirm it's working — you'll see a green checkmark when the pixel is detected.
Create your first test
Navigate to Tests → Create New Test. Give your test a name (e.g., 'Homepage headline test'). Enter the URL of the page you want to test. Use a CSS selector to target the text element — for example, h1 for the main headline, or .cta-button for a call-to-action.
Write your control text and at least one variation. Pro tip: use the AI Generator to create variations automatically. Set your traffic split (we recommend 50/50 for your first test) and choose a goal — clicks, form submissions, or page navigation.
Monitor your results
Once your test is live, head to the Analytics tab to watch results in real time. You'll see conversion rates, visitor counts, and statistical significance building over time. Most tests need 1,000+ visitors per variation to reach significance.
The dashboard will show you a significance percentage — once it hits 95%, you can be confident in the result. Copysplit will also send you an email notification when a winner is detected.
Pick a winner and iterate
When statistical significance is reached, click 'Set Winner' to lock in the winning variation. The pixel will automatically serve the winning copy to 100% of visitors.

Test one element at a time
Changing the headline AND the CTA makes it impossible to know which change drove the result.
Start with high-traffic pages
More traffic = faster results. Test your homepage, pricing page, or top landing pages first.
Don't end tests early
Wait for 95% significance even if one variant looks like it's winning early. Early results are often misleading.
