This is the bread and butter of conversion optimization, and it works because the statistics are straightforward: you are comparing two means, and the math has been settled since Fisher work in the 1920s.

Multivariate testing (MVT) tests multiple elements on a page at the same time, measuring not just which combination wins but how the elements interact with each other.
